The Charlotte County Safe and Drug Free School (SDFS) Program selected the PeaceWorks curriculum as one of several programs to implement in the year 2002-2003 school year. The PeaceWorks curriculum is a research-based, grade- level specific curriculum for grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. The materials incorporate activities that foster norms of cooperation and problem-solving rather than violence and aggression. The PeaceWorks program was implemented in the 4th and 5th grades of two elementary schools. Two additional elementary schools served as a comparison group.

The Citrus County Safe and Drug Free School (SDFS) Program selected the Too Good for Drugs II (TGFD) curriculum as one of two programs to implement in the year 2002-2003 school year. The TGFD curriculum is one of the programs listed in the SDFS Program Inventory as a proven program. It is a research- based “comprehensive school-based drug prevention education program designed to teach all students that they are too good for drugs and to equip them with the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to remain drugfree. The program is based on research about resiliency, risk and protective factors, and developmental assets-factors which research has identified as critical for young people's successful growth and development (Too Good for Drugs II Website, 2002).” Citrus County implemented Too Good for Drugs II in four middle schools, grades 6-8.

School District of Collier County, Florida - SDFS Program - Teaching Health Program - Final Report       [download full report]
The Collier County Safe and Drug Free School (SDFS) Program selected the Comprehensive School Health: Totally Awesome Strategies for Te aching Health, Third Edition, as one of several programs to implement in the 2003-2004 school year. The curriculum is a resource for helping elementary, middle, and secondary teachers teach health. It is the most widely used health education methods textbook and Teacher Resource Book for Health Education. According to the authors, teachers rely on the reliable, practical strategies and methods that the book provides. The 50-page Curriculum Guide at the end of the book is an organized, sequential K-12 plan for teaching students the information and skills they need to become health- literate, maintain and improve their health, prevent disease, and reduce health-related risk behaviors.

The Collier County Safe and Drug Free School (SDFS) Program selected the Here’s Looking at You curriculum as one of several programs to implement in the year 2002- 2003 school year. The Here’s Looking at You curriculum is a research-based, grade- level specific curriculum for grades Kindergarten through 12. The materials incorporate activities to keep students from using drugs; to encourage students who do use drugs to quit, and to help students promote messages against the use of drugs. The curriculum teaches students useful pro-social skills; provides opportunities for students to become involved with their school, family, and community; incorporates cooperative team learning; and seeks to promote positive norms in the school community, among others. Collier County is implementing Here’s Looking at You in grades 3 and 4.

The PATHS curriculum is one of the programs listed in the SDFS Program Inventory as a proven program. It is a research-based classroom curriculum that aims to reduce school violence by teaching emotional literacy, interpersonal competence, and social problem-solving skills to children in grades K-6. (Okaloosa is implementing PATHS in grades 3-5.)

The First-Time Offenders Substance Abuse Program is a district-developed program. The overall goal of the First-Time Offenders Substance Abuse Program is to assist students in making educated choices about substance abuse. The purpose of the evaluation was to determine the effectiveness of the First-Time Offenders Substance Abuse program in meeting selected objectives and to assess the longitudinal impact of the program in Okeechobee County.

The Student Assistance and Family Empowerment (SAFE) Program was started in the Orange County School District (OCSD) in 1986 to comply with the Safe and Drug Free Schools Community Act and specifically to help identify and provide support for highrisk students and their families. The Program is delivered through a SAFE Program Coordinator in each of the 28 middle and 13 high schools and three of the elementary schools in the OCSD.

The Building Young Leaders “Anytown” program is a district-developed program and has been implemented in Pasco County for three years. Anytown is a program of the National Conference for Community and Justice. It is designed to promote respect, understanding and cooperation among students from diverse racial, religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds by providing diversity training for staff and students in middle and high school.
