The Artful Truth–Healthy Propaganda Arts project was developed by The Wolfsonian–Florida International University, as part of the Florida Department of Health, Division of Health
Awareness and Tobacco programs. The program provides participating educators with a instructor manual, student workbooks, visual aids, and financial resources. The curriculum
consists of a set of hands-on activities that help children develop a conceptual framework and vocabulary for analyzing or “reading” visual images and design. These skills are first developed
using images from the Wolfsonian collection and then applied more specifically to analyzing the
underlying purpose and methods of tobacco advertising.

Executive Summary & Table of Contents for the Sports for Life Program [download full report]
The Sports for Life Program proposed to combine “various state, regional, and
local level sports and recreational programming organizations with youth
organizations and public schools to develop a statewide youth program that will
empower youngsters to make healthy choices regarding tobacco use.” The goal
of the Sports for Life program was to attract youth to participate in sports, a
positive alternative to tobacco use, while infusing the youth sports industry with a
positive tobacco-free message. It was intended to serve both youth who are
currently involved in mainstream organized team and individualized sports and
for other youth who are engaged or attracted to “alternative” or “extreme”
sporting activities who may be more at risk for smoking behaviors.
